Abstract
359,603. Fuel-injection pumps. NAPIER & SON, Ltd., D. and CHATTERTON, E. E., 211, Acton Vale, London. Aug. 2, 1930, No. 23302. [Class 102 (i).] In a fuel-injection pump for a multicylinder internalcombustion engine the plunger A is rotated to bring an axial slot A<4> in succession into register with the delivery ports E of the various cylinders. For this purpose a splined portion G on the plunger engages the similarly splined flange H of a drum H<1> driven through gearing L, L<3>, K<3> from the cam shaft K<1>. The drum encloses a spring H<3>, which presses the plunger against the cam K. The plunger is formed with an axial passage A<1> and radial passages A<2>, A3, by means of which the pressure space communicates with the suction space D during the earlier and later portions of the stroke. The width of the space D, and hence the amount of fuel delivered, is varied by moving a sleeve B<1> axially by means of a lever F.
