Abstract

Sulphuric acid is recovered from the waste acid liquors from the refining of oils, fats and the like by concentrating the liquors until they contain, at least 60 per cent, say 60-80 per cent of sulphuric acid and then diluting them, whereupon organic impurities are precipitated and removed. The waste acid liquors may be treated by diluting with water in the usual way to remove the major portion of the resinous and oleaginous impurities before being subjected to the above treatment. The concentration may take place at temperatures above 100 DEG C. of say between 150 DEG and 190 DEG C. Examples are given.
