Abstract
360,525. Wrapping-machines. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. and GROVER, F., Oakhurst Avenue, Dewsbury Road, Leeds. Aug. 20, 1930, No. 24895. [Class 94 (i).] In a wrapping machine which includes a rotary folding device and an oscillating device in which further folding takes place, the articles 1 are fed by a belt 2 in front of a plunger 3, which thrusts the leading one, with a wrapper 4, between jaws 7, 8 mounted for intermittent rotation about an axis 12. During this movement, the leading surface of the wrapper is engaged by a finger 21, resiliently mounted on a slide 21<1> so as to yield against the action of a spring and to guide the article and wrapper into the jaws. An extension 33 on the finger engages a roller 34 on the jaw 8, and slightly opens the jaw against the action of a spring to facilitate the insertion. Two pairs of jaws are mounted on the axis 12, which now turns through 180‹, a semicircular plate 13 turning the flap 4a of the wrapper into the position shown in Fig. 9. At this point, a finger 22 rigidly mounted on the slide 21<1>, co-operates with a resiliently mounted finger 23 to transfer the partially wrapped article to the position 1b between grippers 15, 16, while another rigid finger 24 on the slide removes the previously treated article on to a delivery table 20. During the transference by the fingers 22, 23, a stationary member 14 turns up the flap 4a so that the wrapper is in the form of an open-ended tube when the article arrives between the grippers 15, 16. The grippers are mounted on arms 17, 18 adapted to oscillate about a pivot 19 and the article is carried downwards so that folders 27 form the first end tucks 4d, Fig. 11, in the ends of the wrapper. Folders 28, 29 approach to turn in the tucks 4b, 4c, the grippers 15, 16 moving slightly further downwards to nip the folds. The grippers return the article to the original position for removal by the finger 24. The outstanding flaps may, if desired, be folded down and secured by adhesive in any suitable manner. The resiliently mounted fingers 21, 23 may be disengaged at the appropriate moments by the action of a stationary cam 32 on rollers 31 mounted on extensions 30 of the fingers.
