Abstract
359,503. Moulding paving slabs by stationary-mould machines. Convention date, May 22, 1930. Divided on 358,982, [Group X]. [Class 87 (ii).] Iron-bound paving slabs are pressed by running the hooped aggregate to the press ram, and then raising the latter so that the hoop enters a mould frame during the first portion of the stroke and the aggregate is compressed against a top abutment for the remainder of the stroke, the pressed slab leaving the mould in its suspended position on the - return stroke. In the form shown, metallic hoops 2 filled with cement are placed on pallets 4 and carried to the press on a conveyer 33, where they are raised by the ram 2 into the suspended mould 5 and afterwards pressed against a fixed abutment 10. On the return stroke the pressed hooped slab follows the ram downward leaving the mould suspended to receive the next slab. If the slab sticks in the mould, the supporting latches 16 are released simultaneously by operation of a hand-lever and the mould lowered for a short distance on the ram. The abutment 10 is then lowered by hand-operated screw mechanism 24 and the ram re-raised to eject the slab. The moulded block is removed by the delivery conveyer 34. The iron binding is formed with grouting recesses and corresponding projections are fitted temporarily to them to prevent deformation during pressing.
