Abstract
174,748. Brown, T. A., and Walker, C. Nov. 3, 1920. Moulds; tamping-machines; feeding.-A machine for moulding concrete blocks &c. comprises in combination a mould with retractible sides and vertically movable bottom, and rams for tamping the material and operating the mould bottom, the rams being actuated by fluid pressure and controlled with varying stroke similarly to pneumatic hammers. The feedhoppers a, a<1> have delivery spouts with revolving- vane devices b. The mould walls having flanges f are moved on the fixed frame plates e by rotating the worm-wheels l mounted on shafts k screwing into holes in the bosses g. Simultaneous adjustment of the sides may be obtained by worm gearing actuated by interconnected shafts parallel to the sides, and when the mould is divided into two portions the partition may consist of two inner walls o, Fig. 7, movable simultaneously with the sides. The mould bottom consists of a platform v mounted on a carriage u and lifted by rams w in a pit beneath the track c, which is provided with stops to arrest the carriage in the required position. The vertical rams x carry tamping plates y and when hollow blocks are required the plates y are provided with apertures and other rams are provided to carry tapered cores, the delivery passages 2 in such cases being disposed on either side of the rams. In a modification shown in Fig. 6 the mould is supported in columns d<1> while a complete section of the track is raised by the rams w. The rods x<3> of the upper rams which may all be controlled by a single lever, are secured to a cross-head frame comprising channel-bars x<1> and extensions x<2> guided in flanges of girder irons d<2> secured on the standards d', tie crosshead frame actuating the feed mechanisn. by means of the two-armed lever 4 and rods 5 6. Metal fittings may be embedded in the blocks as described in Specification 174,749, [Class 87 (i), Bricks &c.].
