Abstract
349,996. Pivoted sliding windows. CALDWELL, L. M., 1830, Camp Avenue, Rockford, Illinois, U.S.A. Feb. 7, 1930, No. 4240. [Class 20 (iii).] A window construction, of the kind in which the sashframe is pivoted on slides moving in the window frame, has interlocking weather strips fitted between the sash-frame and the slides and resilient packing strips interposed between the slides and the window frame. The said weather strips are adapted to prevent outward swinging movement of the sashframe while the packing strips allow for the shrinking and swelling of the sashes. As shown in Fig. 2, a window construction comprises upper and lower sashes 11, 12 respectively, pivoted bv screws 20 to slides 18, 19 which slide within the stiles 10 of the window frame. The slides are supported in the usual manner by sash cords and weights and are arranged between stops 15, 17 and parting strip 16. The sash-frames and slides are provided with weather strips 22, 23, as shown in sectional plan in Fig. 3, which interlock so as to prevent outward swinging movement of the sashes. Between the slides and the stiles 10 are inserted resilient weather-proofing strips 24, which are secured to the stiles and have ribs which enter longitudinal grooves 25 in the slides. Weatherproofing between the lower sash and the sill 13 is effected by a weather strip 26 which is arranged to enter a groove 27 in the bottom rail of the said sash. The joint between the meeting rails of the sashes may be weather-proofed by interlocking weather strips or by the inclination of the contacting edges 29.
