Abstract
348,969. Fluid-pressure brakes. KNORR-BREMSE AKT.-GES., 9, Neue Bahnhofstrasse, Lichtenberg, Berlin. Aug. 6, 1930, No. 23569. Convention date, Aug. 30. [Class 103 (i).] A driver's valve device for the simultaneous control of a single-chamber brake on the motor vehicle of a train and two chamber brakes on the trailer vehicles comprises two pressure reducing valves a, b of the kind described in Specification 322,155, [Class 135, Valves &c.], the spindles e, f of which are operated by a pair of interconnected levers g, h pivoted at g<1>, h<1> and a rod i, whereby the braking pressure of all the brakes corresponds to the extent of movement of the operating lever. A return spring l is provided. Each valve, Fig. 2, comprises a diaphragm d subject to the opposing pressure of a spring v and that in a chamber m<1> connected to the brake cylinder by pipe m or n. The compression of the spring is adjustable by the spindle e or f. In the case of the motor vehicle, the valves o, q are normally respectively seated and unseated as shown so that the brake cylinder is open to the atmosphere through openings d<1>, s. When the levers g, h are operated to apply the brakes, the spindle e is raised to seat the valve q and open the valve o so that air is supplied through the pipe c to the brake cylinder until the pressure of the spring v is overcome causing the closing of both valves. The spindle f of the valve b for the trailer brakes is normally raised so that the valve o is open to supply compressed air to the brake cylinders while in applying the brakes the spindle is lowered to open the exhaust valve q. A valve r on the spindle e, f closes the passages s when the spindle is in its highest position to prevent escape of air which may leak past the valve q.
