Abstract
516,593. Fluid-pressure brakes. BOSCH GES. R. (formerly BOSCH AKT.-GES., R.). June 30, 1938, No. 19393. Convention date, June 30, 1937. [Class 103 (i)] In fluid-pressure brakes for tractors and trailer vehicles the control valve for the tractor brake is provided with a piston 35 or the like which is influenced by the pressure in the trailer brake pipe so that braking is only allowed in the tractor when the braking pressure on the trailer has attained a predetermined value. The tractor brake control valve 3 and the trailer brake control valve 2 are combined in a single casing and are both operated by a single balance lever 30 and brake pedal 32. Both valves comprise self-lapping arrangements involving valves 11, 48 and pistons 4, 37 and control the communication of the pipes 7, 42 leading to the respective brake cylinders with the compressed air supply 17 or the atmosphere through hollow piston rods 6, 38 and passages 55, 53. The trailer brake is spring applied and is normally charged with compressed air which is admitted also by a passage 52 to the piston 35 mounted on the rod 38 of the piston 37 of the tractor brake valve. This pressure acting on this piston 35 prevents operation of the tractor brake valve until this pressure has fallen a predetermined amount and the trailer brakes have been applied. A spring 22 provides resistance to the driver's foot. The lag in application of the tractors brakes is adjustable by means of perforations 31 on spring 62.
