[Class 107.] Vehicular apparatus for preparing and spreading chemical solutions, such as liquid manure or fungicides on farms, or solutions for removing grass from railway tracks or melting snow in streets comprises a reservoir 3, a vat 1 containing the chemicals, means for moistening the chemicals in the vat with liquid from the reservoir, a pump 4 for conveying the contents of the vat into the reservoir, and a pump 9 operated by the engine of the vehicle for discharging liquid from the reservoir into distributing tubes 14 which are adapted to spread a quantity of liquid proportional to the speed of the vehicle. A valve 2 provided in the reservoir 3 adjacent the vat 1 enables the contents of the latter to be moistened. The suction pipe 5 of the pump 4 leads into the vat and the discharge pipe 6 discharges into the reservoir, and these pipes are either roughened or comparatively long and distorted. The pump 9 communicates with the bottom of the reservoir by means of a suction pipe 7 and discharges to a pipe 12, connected with the tubes 14, and to a return pipe 10 for effecting an agitation of the liquid in the reservoir. The pump 4 is driven from the engine of the vehicle or by an independent motor, and the pump 9 is driven from an axle of the vehicle with the interposition of suitable speed-varying means. The distributing pipe 12 discharges into a cylinder 13 communicating with the series of horizontal longitudinally-disposed outlet tubes 14. Each tube 14 contains a spring- pressed piston 17 as shown in Fig. 2 and has on its underface a number of delivery ports, which may be constructed as so to eject the liquid with an eddying motion. A device comprising a sleeve 21, enclosing an arrangement similar to the perforated tube 14 and piston 17, may be provided in connection with each delivery tube 14 so that when any delivery tube 14 is cut off by a valve 20 liquid is fed instead to the sleeve 21 and thence to the reservoir. The vat 1 is mounted so as to be slidable transverselv of the vehicle to allow of the vat being loaded, and is provided with a pair of cleats operating in association with the compressed air braking system of the vehicle so that the latter cannot move when the vat is in its charging position. An auxiliary motor may be provided for actuating the pump 9 when the drive of the pump by the engine of the vehicle is inoperative.
