Abstract

346,375. Nonconducting coverings for heat and sound. KENNEDY, J. E., 258, Riverside Drive, New York, U.S.A. Oct. 3, 1929, No. 30049. [Class 64 (ii).] In a machine for the reduction of materials, of the kind having a rotary casing within which crushing devices are disposed, the casing is surrounded by a plurality of layers of porous or cellular sound insulating material, each layer of material having a different porosity. The mill 2 is provided with layers 31, 33 of sound neutralizing material such as cork, which is cellular or contains air cells. A layer of porous material may be interposed between the lining 20 and casing 2 and the outer layers may be separated by sheet metal, paper, &c. linings, the whole being covered by painted fabric &c. The porosity of each layer diminishes away from the drum. The sound insulating material also acts as a heat insulating material.
