Abstract
344,279. Treating artificial silk. GLANZSTOFF-COURTAULDS GES., 2, Neusser Landstrasse, Merheim, Cologne, Germany. April 29, 1930, No. 13194. Convention date, April 29, 1929. [Class 2 (ii).] Spun cakes of artificial silk are washed, desulphurized, bleached, or dyed by mounting on solid supports and introducing the treatment liquid into the interior of the cake so that it flows over the top edges of the cakes. This liquid current serves to loosen the thread layers and so enable the treatment liquid to pass between the layers without the use of undue pressure. The extent of loosening of the threads is limited by allowing the cakes to gain in height by a predetermined amount. A number of cakes may be treated in one operation (Fig. 1) by placing them on supports A arranged upon a perforated tube B in such a manner that the top of one cake is several millimetres or one or more centimetres from the support of the next cake above it. When treating cakes singly, they are placed upon a support A (Fig. 2) and covered by a hood C, the top of which is at a sufficient distance from the top of the cake as to allow of the necessary expansion.
