Abstract

218,321. Roberts, E. June 30, 1923. [Convention date]. Strainer separators. - A centrifugal separator basket has an outer perforated wall 1 with interior shallow pockets communicating with the perforations 12 in the wall. A closely-perforated filter screen 23 rests in the usual way upon a wire mesh 22 and is supported by a bridge-plate 21 with closely-arranged relatively coarse perforations. The shallow pockets of the outer wall are formed by large perforations in a grid 20 and the inner ends of the discharge openings 12 are flared as indicated at 15. This arrangement prevents the screen from bulging at the discharge openings. The bottom 9 of the outer veseel is secured to the cylindrical part by an annular extension 10, the parts being pinned together and a tight band 11 applied. Annular ledges 13 project inside the bottom 9 and a coansely-perforated bridge-plate 30 is secured to the ledges and carries the filtering screens 31. Discharge openings are formed beneath the ledges and the filtering screens 31 overlap the screens 23. The screens may be made in vertical sections which overlap slightly. A circular deflector plate is secured to the shaft. The apparatus may be used for the refining of sugar.
