343,300. Gear-wheel pumps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Ross, A. A.; 28, Brookhouse Drive, Marblehead, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) Feb. 4, 1930, No. 3758. Convention date, Feb. 4, 1929. [Class 110 (ii).] A gear - wheel pump 10-11 for supplying lubricant to a forcefeed system is mounted on the end of a driving shaft 7 of the apparatus being lubricated in a casing 6 which is also supported by the driving shaft 7. A small clearance 9 is left between the periphery of casing 6 and the outer, rigid, pump casing 5, to allow the gear-wheels and inner casing 6 to follow the driving shaft 7 during any change of position of the latter due to load or wear. Inlet and delivery passages 13 and 14 in the casing 6 line up with inlet and delivery passages 15 and 16 in casing 5. The delivery pressure in space 9 forces casing 6 against the suction passage 15 and prevents the oil leaking back. Oil left in the pump, due to the vertical arrangement of gears, serves for priming purposes on starting up.
