Abstract
339,360. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). July 4, 1929. Divided on 340,575, [Group III]. Solidified and gelatinized oils. - Neutral organic liquids are gelatinized so as to be readily and safely handled and stored, by formation therein of a voluminous framework of solid inorganic oxide or hydroxide, e.g. by the action of a base on tin tetrachloride, silicon tetrachloride, or chloride of iron or aluminium. The liquids may be recovered by mechanical pressing, by heating, or by passing gases thereover. For example, ammonia. gas is passed into a mixture of 1 litre of silicon tetrachloride with 100 litres of benzine, or of 3 litres of tin tetrachloride with 100 litres of petroleum ether, preferably while cooling.
