Refrigerating, absorption machines for.-In a machine working on the reversing system and comprising a generator-absorber a, liquid trap and rectifier c, condenser d and evaporator f, means for returning to the liquid space of the generator-absorber any solvent collected at the bottom of the evaporator comprises a pipe e extending from the lower part of the evaporator to the liquid space of an open vessel e' which receives condensate from a pipe h and has a small outlet opening l. During the generating-condensing period the vessel e<1> fills and the end of the pipe h is sealed by liquid. At the beginning of the evaporation-absorption period solvent is sucked up into the vessel e' and back to the generator-absorber until the level sinks below the end of the pipe h. The lower part of the pipe c may be exposed to the surrounding air and may be straight, looped or ring- shaped. Bubbles of evaporated refrigerant rising in the pipe may serve to lift liquid into the vessel e<1> after the general level of liquid in the evaporator has fallen below the mouth of the pipe h.
