Spring surfaces.-Movement of the radial springs out of position is prevented in spring units employed for mattresses and upholstery and of the kind in which two oppositely disposed central members e, e<1>, Figs. 1 and 2, are connected to a peripheral ring a by a, number of radial bifurcated springs c. Each of the radial springs is formed with a spring loop d which is disposed in a completely enclosed guide a<1> formed by the peripheral ring, the sizes of the loop in the radial springs and the guides a<1> being such as to allow the necessary freedom of movement when the unit is compressed by forces acting in the directions A A. The circumferential rim may consist of a single wire formed with closed loops or guides or the loops a<1> may project inwardly from the ring. The inner ends of the radial springs c may be connected and shaped as shown in Fig. 3 so as to engage a central connecting ring h. Alternatively the central member may consist of a sheet-metal ring as shown in Fig. 10 having stamped-out lugs g which are turned up and bent around the radial springs. The parts E, F of the plate may be formed as raised ridges to prevent side movement of the radial springs c. The loops or guide-pieces on the circumferential ring may be dispensed with and the radial springs are then connected by loose.cross ties q as shown in Fig. 9.
