Abstract

Laterally - stretched travelling materials, treating with fluids. - Apparatus for mercerizing textile fabrics comprises curved expander bars E fitted in the mercerizing vessel A below the level of the liquor and submerged therein when the machine is working so that lateral shrinkage is prevented. The fabric is preferably maintained in the stretched condition during transfer to the washing bath D and during washing by being kept in constant surface contact with rollers C; the rollers d also running in surface contact until the washing is completed.
