Abstract
168,712. Clarenbach, L. June 23, 1920. Laterally-stretched travelling materials, treating with liquids; zig-zag-roller type. -An apparatus for washing, dyeing, waterproofing, fireproofing, or otherwise treating with liquids, an open-width fabric consists of a vat with one or more frames supporting rollers over which the fabric passes in zig-zag fashion; these frames are reciprocated in a direction at right-angles to the path of the fabric, which is thus permeated uniformly with the liquid. Fig. 1 shows a vat with two compartments 2, 3 containing three frames 4, 5, 6 of rollers 16; the frames move in guides 8, and are reciprocated by eccentrics 12 or cranks 14. The fabric passes over feed rollers 19, 24, 27, 34, which are on spindles connected by three gear-chains 44, 45, 46, and are driven bv a stepped pulley. Squeezing-rollers 48 fitted above the rollers 24, 27 are eccentrically mounted and have adjustable weights 51. In the vat is an eccentrically-mounted tension roller 26, which is rotated by chain-gearing 54, 55. As the frame 6 reciprocates the arm 32 carrying the tension rollers 31, 33 engage with pins 36, 37 and affect the tension of the cloth. Dye baths may be heated by steam coil 52. A modification comprises, in addition to the apparatus shown, a sodium sulphate bath with a reciprocating frame like that shown in the compartment 3 and an acetic acid bath without it. A preliminary wetting bath is without it, and a final rinsing bath is fitted with such a frame.
