Abstract
331,230. Drey, Simpson, & Co., Ltd., Drey, O., and Byrd, H. L. Dec. 24, 1928. Pile, cutting.-In a machine for cutting weft pile, the knife 14 is carried by links 13 pivoted to levers 11, 12 which are themselves pivoted in the cross traversing carriage 10. Under normal cutting conditions a roller 12a carried by the levers 12 and subject to the action of a spring 19, remains under a weight bar 15, but at other times the bar 15 is free to fall and, through its carrying levers 16, rotates the shaft 17 and, by means of the arm 17a and rod 17b, stop the machine. When the joint or other thick part of the cloth 5 passes between the rollers 20, 21. a stop 28 is lifted clear of a pawl 29 on a lever 30 also pivoted on the carriage 10 and a spring 32 through the lever 30 and slotted link 31 then pulls the levers 11, 12 to withdraw the knife 14 from the cloth and at the same time stop the machine.
