Facilitating changing speed. - An isolating clutch b between the change-speed gear A of a vehicle and the road wheels is disengaged by movement of the gear-change lever a, and its re-engagement is not effected as long as the engine clutch is disengaged. The spring d<4> which holds clutch b in abuts against the engine clutch lever e. In changing speed, pedal e is depressed, opening engine clutch and freeing connecting-rod d. Lever a, on being moved to change-gear, acts through a lever j to thrust-rod d to the right to open clutch b. Before clutch b can be engaged, pedal e must be released to compress spring d<4>. A modification is described in which lever j is replaced by a relay operated by engine suction. Clutch b mav be of the kind described in Specification 306,636.
