465,706. Controlling change speed gearing. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AKT.-GES. Aug. 31, 1936, No. 23837. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1935. [Class 80 (ii)] In a preselector control device for vehicle change-speed gearing, the selector movements cause the axial sliding of a sleeve 3 so that a selector lever 1 is displaced along a straight slot 18 in a gate 2. To change out of, say, first speed, the pedal 10, Fig. 1, of the engine clutch 12 is depressed to open the clutch, and this pedal through a link connection 9, 8 rocks'the sleeve 3 clockwise so that the selector lever 1 passes out of a gate slot I into the cross slot 18. A selector hand lever, not shown, is then displaced to bring the lever 1 opposite, say, slot III. On release of the pedal 10, the return spring 12<1> of the clutch 12 causes the lever 1 to pass into the slot III and so bring in the third speed by suitable means, not shown. In the neutral setting of the device shown in Fig. 2, the lever 1 is opposite, not a slot in the gate, but a solid dog or projection 15 which obstructs the return motion of the lever 1 on release of the pedal 1.0 so that the re-engagement of the engine clutch 12 is prevented. A spring lock 17 to hold the parts in neutral may be provided on the lever 1.
