Abstract
328,765. Farrow, T. April 12, 1929. Burnishing by compression.-In a machine for finishing or burnishing paper tubes, such as pirus, a headstock A is rotated from a mutilated bevel b<1> to arrest chucks a opposite a feeding-in station, a tool F, a tool G, and an ejector station. The tools F, G are shaped as shown in Fig. 4 and burnish the outside and the inside of the tube respectively by compression. The tool F is rotated from a pulley f<1> and is fed to the work by a cam on the shaft C acting through levers H<1>, H. The tool G is rotated from a pulley I) and is fed axially by a cam on the shaft C and a rod K. The chucks comprise split tubes L with conical ends m<2>, m<4>. Axial pressure from the tool F forces the tube E into the chuck. To release the tube a cam c<5> moves a rod R axially to cause the conical portion m<4> to coact with a plate m<5> to open the tube L. An ejector rod secured resiliently to the rod R forces the tube from the split tube L.
