Abstract

325,890. South Metropolitan Gas Co., Chandler, D., and Hoxley, H. W. Dec. 3, 1928. Fluid-actuated valves.-A valve 7 for controlling the supply of gas to the burners of drying ovens etc., is maintained open by a diaphragm 19 housed in a chamber which is in communication with the fan or blower delivering the products of combustion to the apparatus to be heated, the valve closing automatically to cut off the gas on the fan ceasing to operate. The control of the valve is made sensitive by allowing the valveoperating stems 8 and 20 to fit freely in their respective guides. The operating rod 20 is fitted on the non-pressure side of the diaphragm 19, and the gas valve casing is rendered gas-tight below the guide by passing the stems 8 through a sealing diaphragm 12. The gas-valve unit is adapted to be connected in the gas supply pipe and is detachably secured to the casing of the operating diaphragm 19, the exposed end of the valve stem 8 contacting with a head 23 fitted to the operating rod 20, this head also screwing to limit the downward movement of the diaphragm. The exposed end of the valve stem 8 enables the valve to be freed in the event of sticking.
