427,080. Thermally - actuated valves. EWART, J. H., 346, Euston Road, London. Oct. 26, 1934, No. 30822. [Class 135] In a gas-fired water heater, the supply of gas to the burners 1 is controlled by a valve 9 which is opened when a thermostat is heated by an auxiliary pilot jet 8 supplied with gas only while the heater is in operation, the jet 8 being lighted from the main pilot jet 2. The gas passes to the auxiliary jet 8 and the valve 9 by way of a main valve 12 which is opened against the action of gravity when the heater is in operation by the pressure of the water against a baffle 14 actuating a lever 17 bearing against a stem 19 on the valve 12. The jet 8 heats a bi-metallic strip 7 fixed on the water-pipe 16 and expansion of the strip causes the valve 9 to open and admit gas to the burners 1.
