Abstract

324,404. Portham, R. S., and Superheater Co.., Ltd. Oct. 27, 1928. Sinuous-tube superheaters. - The inlet ends of two adjacent elements 11 arranged in the smoke-box of a marine or like firetube boiler are clamped against jointing surfaces in apertures in the bottom of the transverse saturated steam header 1 by a dog 15 engaging collars 19 on the ends of the elements and secured by central bolt 16, and the outlet ends of the two elements are clamped in the same way in apertures in the transverse superheated steam header 2. The tube, jointing surfaces12 and the surfaces 18 engaging the collars 19 are spherical. The elements are supported by straps 21 holding the loops together and having extensions 22 at their upper ends engaging a bracket. 24 on the smoke-box tube plate. Brackets 26 support the elements at their lower ends. The headers are formed with longitudinal reinforcing ribs 14 as described in Specification 167,134, [Class 99 (i), Pipes and tubes.
