Abstract
322,575. Dallinson, G. J. Oct. 2, 1928. Exhaust silencers. - The silencer is secured by a clip e<3> to the exhaust pipe e<2>, and comprises an exhaust chamber a and an air chamber c arranged horizontally, and parallel to one another. The air chamber is provided with an inlet valve g loaded by a light spring g<3> and controlling ducts g<4> in a plug g<5>. The exhaust chamber a is provided with baffles a<2> mounted on a rod a<3> carried by supports a<4>, and at its outlet end has an adjustable perforated plug f<2> for varying the area of ports in a plug f. The chambers a, c are connected by a strong clip e<4>. The valve g is adapted to be opened, to admit air, by the suction in the cylinder on the charging stroke, the exhaust valve being held open for a small portion of this stroke as is well known in motor-cycle practice. In a modification, the beat valve g is replaced by a flap valve.
