Casings; impellers. -The discharge chamber 3 of a centrifugal fan is formed in the side wall 2 of the casing and the outer face, of the chamber is skew to the axis of rotation, so that the interior of the chamber is of circular wedge form. The side shroud 4 of the impeller is curved to deflect laterally the discharge from the impeller to the chamber 3. The casing is divided in the plane of rotation, and the section containing the chamber 3 can be adjusted relative to the fixed section 5 to vary the direction of discharge. In a modification, the discharge chamber consists of a similar wedge-shaped chamber in each side of the casing; in this case a peripheral guide ring on the impeller assists in guiding the discharged medium towards each side.
