Rotary-tool implements; lifting and cleaning parts.-In a motor-driven rotary tilling machine comprising a tine-carrying digger shaft and a cleaner shaft driven in opposite directions as described in Specification 265,783, a transverse drive shaft is connected to a longitudinal transmission shaft by three bevel wheels and a clutch, the digger shaft and cleaner shaft being driven in opposite directions from the drive shaft by a single chain at each end, and the drive shaft being formed in parts one of which is provided with a coupling at each end that slips when the pressure is excessive. The transmission device between the longitudinal shaft and the transverse drive shaft d is mounted in ball bearings inside the gear box f, and is connected to the longitudinal shaft by a coupling. The gear box f is held in place by a casing h provided with an extension carrying trunnions k turning ir. bearings in a bracket j. The clutch m is mounted between two bevel wheels l, l<1> on the shaft d for driving the latter in either direction. Adjustable idler sprockets n are provided for taking up slack in the two chains m that each drive the digger shaft b and cleaner shaft c. The shaft d may be in three parts d<1>, d<2>, d<3>, the central part passing through the gear box f and being provided with toothed couplings o that yield when the force transmitted becomes excessive. A hydraulic lifting device is provided for raising the tilling apparatus. The Provisional Specification describes the arrangement of the tilling apparatus to allow of its being lifted by a worm drive or hydraulic ram.
