Abstract

220,790. Riley, J. W., and Robertson & Co., Ltd., W. H. A. Aug. 1, 1923. Bore-hole apparatus; ground augers. -Holes for fence posts, afforestation &c. are bored by a machine comprising a wheeled carriage 6 pivotally supporting a frame 5 which is adjusted by a rack 9c and a pinion on a shaft 9<B> carrying a handle which may be locked by a fork 9D; the frame 5 supports a tube 3 rotated by hand or power through gearing 10, 11 and driving an inner tube 2 carrying the boring tool 1, the inner tube being longitudinally adjusted by means of a chain 18 driven by hand or power and connected to an arm 19 of a collar 17 arranged between collars 16 secured to the tube 2. The chain 18 may be driven from the gear 10 by an internal gear thereon driving through a pinion, worm gear and a clutch.
