Abstract
321,021. Manley, E. T. Sept. 24, 1928. Spring surfaces.-In a spring mattress &c. of the type comprising an angle iron frame a, and a number of transversely-arranged trough-shaped members d connected at each end to the frame and supporting upholstery springs f which are connected at their upper ends by links, chains, &c. to one another and to the frame, the transverse members are constructed of flat iron strips arranged vertically, the ends being bent so that they can be secured directly to the angle iron frame. The springs f are secured by passing them through holes h in the strips d. Preferably the strips are arranged more closely together at the head of the bed. The upper ends of the springs are connected together by chains l, m and to the frame by chains e and springs k, i. The cast end boxes c of the frame are formed with dovetail ends o to fit in the end members of the bedstead, or recesses may be formed on the frame to receive projections on the ends of the bedstead. The dovetail ends may be omitted so as to provide a mattress for existing bedstead frames, and the fitting described may be upholstered or used as a support for an existing mattress to which it may be secured by riveting or it may be supplied with fittings for securing to an existing mattress.
