Abstract

318,820. Universal Winding Co. Sept. 22, 1928, [Convention date]. Moistening yarns in winding machines. - A device for oiling thread comprises an angularlyadjustable plug 4, Fig. 3, located above a reservoir 2, the plug being slotted at 9 to accommo- .date the thread 13 which engages a wick 11, the wick-bearing surface of the plug being of progressively increasing radius whereby the thread may be made to engage a greater or less length of the wick by altering the angular adjustment of the plug 4. The plug is fixed in a given positions by a set-screw and its angular adjustment may be indicated on a graduated dial. To obtain uniform oilng when winding on a bobbin 18, Fig. 5, a lever system 19 - - 25 is provided whereby the spindle 26 of the plug 4 is automatically adjusted as the bobbin grows to present a greater wick surface to the thread and thus compensate for the increased speed of winding on the outer layers.
