Abstract

308,173. British Celanese, Ltd., (Assignees of Whitehead, W.). March 17, 1928, [Convention date]. Moistening yarns &c. in spinning and winding machines. Dihydric or polyhydric alcohols or compounds having a di- or polyhydric alcohol base, having boiling points above 100‹C. are used for lubricating or softening textile fibres, e.g. in hanking, back-winding, ring-twisting, etc. Specified liquids are ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerol, the monoethyl ethers of ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol, the diethyl ether of diethylene glycol, or mixtures of two or more of these. When such liquids are hygroscopic there is preferably added sufficient water to prevent subsequent change of volume, viscosity, or concentration. 1'his subject-matter is not claimed but forms the basis of Specification 333,949.
