Abstract

318,719. Sykes, Ltd., W., and Mathews, J. H. Aug. 1, 1928. Punching-balls.-A punch-ball stand has a hollow base piece 1 arranged to taper in an upward direction to form a reduced top 3 in which there is a vertical recess 4. In the upper end of a long detachable vertical boss 11 is a central hole and a flange 10 is provided at a suitable distance from the curved lower end 13 of the boss. The flange on the boss is passed into the recess in the top of the base piece and rests upon a leather washer 5 placed on the horizontal ledge 6. The lower end 13 of the boss is arranged to pass through a central hole 8 in the horizontal ledge 6. The detachable vertical boss is attached to an adjustable pendent hook or eye-bolt 31, provided with a threaded stem 32, by a chain 34, or in place of a chain a second hook may be employed. The screwed stem 32 meshes with a flanged nut with projections 39 and facilitates adjustment. A strong spring 41 is interposed between the ledge 6 and the adjusting nut. In the upper portion of the boss 11 is inserted a rod 18 carrying the punch ball 24.
