Abstract

Vacuum tubes; lowpressure metallicvapour apparatus.-A starting arrangement for a discharge device such as a rectifier, mercury vapour, or quartz lamp, consists of a one-way rotary or other quick - break switch i having at least three contacts, one n of which is connected with a supply main, and the others m, l with one end of the primary c of a transformer and with one or more e intermediate points a choke coil e being connected between the primary and the cathode p and arranged s o a s t o accumulate sufficient energy to maintain the arc during the interruption of the input current. The secondary d is connected with the anodes s. The choke may be mounted on the core of the transformer or arranged separate therefrom.
