421,523. Converting. JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN., Otto- Schott-Strasse, Jena, Germany. March 16, 1933, No. 7953. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 18, 1933]. [Class 38 (ii)] [See also Group XL] To enable vapour discharge devices having a positive critical ignition potential to be used in a self-excited inverter the centre tap of the transformer winding supplying the grids is connected to a point of positive potential relative to the cathode. The centre tap of the secondary of the grid transformer is connected to an ignition electrode c which is supplied from the D.C. supply through a resistance o. When the D.C. supply circuit is energized this electrode is lifted out of the mercury b by the magnet n, to initiate ignition and in addition, it becomes sufficiently positive with respect to the cathode to raise the grid potential above the critical ignition potential so that the inverter commences to function.
