313,880. Eclipse Machine Co.., (Assignees of Chilton, R.). June 18, 1928, [Convention date]. Turning -gear.-In an engine starter, a driving pinion on the shaft 12 of a flywheel 11 meshes with laminated pinions on lay shafts 13, each laminated pinion comprising gear discs 20, 21 meshing with the driving pinion and alternating with friction clutch plates 17, 18, 19 splined on the shaft 13, a disc spring 24 acting on the plates being adjustable by means of a nut 25. Pinions 14 on the shafts 13 engage an internal gear 15, which is connected by splines 27 to a jaw clutch 28 movable axially into engagement with a driven clutch 29. In use, the flywheel is set in rotation and the clutch 28 is then engaged with the clutch 29.
