Abstract
312,808. Chaffer, C. May 30, 1928. Magnetic compasses. - In an anti-vibrational mounting for a magnetic compass, the frame carrying the instrument is connected to an outer supporting frame by at least one pair of substantially parallel horizontal wires &c. which are spaced apart, are attached at their ends to one of the frames, and are connected at about their centres to the other frame, so that each pair of wires permits slight relative movement of the connected parts in a direction at right-angles to the length of the wires while preventing such movement in the direction in which the wires extend. In the form shown two pairs of wires approximately at 90‹ to each other are provided, the instrument-carrying frame A being connected to an intermediate floating frame D by one pair C, C' which are attached at their ends to the frame D and at their centres to projections B, B<1> from the frame A. The frame D is similarly connected to the outer supporting frame H by the second pair of wires G, G<1>. The wires are adjusted so as to be just not tight. For supporting heavy instruments the wires may be replaced by ribbon springs arranged with their broad faces vertical.
