Abstract

311,255. Dowty, G. H. Feb. 7, 1928. Fluid-pressure. - In a brake mechanism for vehicles and aircraft the actuating fluid-pressure is derived from pumps 9 the pistons of which are connected to levers 13 adapted to oscillate through contact with a cam surface 11 formed upon and rotating with the brake-drum. The mechanism is housed in the brake-drum. The levers 13 are pivoted on a common pivot 14 and are provided with rollers 15 to contact the cam surface. The pumps supply oil, air, &c. to the brake cylinder 17 to actuate pistons 19 and shoes 1. The braking pressure is relieved by a release valve 21 on the cylinder which allows the fluid to return through a reservoir to the pump inlet 22. The valve 21 is opened by means of a cam 20 actuated by the driver.
