Abstract
294,592. MacPherson, M. C. April 27, 1927. Fluid-pressure. - In an aeroplane or like aircraft having fluid-pressure brakes which can be applied to the landing wheels, the fluid-pressure is derived from pumping action due to the rotation of the landing wheels or to the movement of the tail skid. A plunger 11 is actuated by a cam 13 on the wheel axle to deliver fluid through a non-return valve 15 to a brake cvlinder 16, the pressure being controlled by a valve 21, under the pilot's control, which bye-passes more or less of the fluid to a reservoir 20. The pump and reservoir unit is mounted within a brake drum upon the coverplate and the braking pressure is applied through links 39 to brake blocks acting on the drum. A pipe 54 connects the cylinder 16 to any other cylinders in use. A relief valve 24 discharging through a passage 24<a> into the reservoir limits the braking pressure.
