Abstract
310,817. Herbert, L. April 30, 1928, [Convention date]. Tea, gathering.-Flat topped tea bushes are cut by rotary cutters 7 co-operating with fixed prongs 9 projecting from the front edge of a tray 1 on which the clippings are collected. The tray is provided with raised sides 2 and back 3, these raised portions being provided with flanges 2a, 3a that stiffen the tray and serve as guides for actuating hand levers 4. The cutters 7 are mounted on and driven through a one ways clutch from a spindle 10 that is rotated by a pinion 11 meshing with a rack 12 this rack being mounted inside a cylindrical mesher 13 which is moved in one direction inside an outer cylinder 14 bv the operation of the levers 4 and in the other by a return spring 15. The rear edges of the teeth of the rotary cutting disc are turned up to sweep the cut leaves on to the tray; a comb may be provided to ensure the leaves being removed from the cutter. The fixed prongs 9 may be longer than the rotary teeth so as to direct the crop to the cutter, and the front edge of the tray may also be shaped for this purpose.
