Abstract

308,095. Broadbent & Sons, Ltd., T., and Hallitt, W. April 4, 1928 impact pulverizers. - The impact surfaces of a pulverizer, against which the material is thrown by centrifugal action, are composed or constituted by the material itself. Two oppositely rotating discs a, b are mounted in bearings a<2>, b<2> and are driven by pulleys a<3>, b<3>. Coal &c. is fed through a tube c to the space between the two discs and after passing through the discs is discharged by a fan i through an orifice (not shown) in the chamber j. The discs are provided with annular concentric rings a<4>, b<4> which are provided with a steep face facing the axis of the mill and with an inclined face on the reverse side. The rings interengage and the space between alternate rings diminishes toward the circumference of the discs. Due to centrifugal force, the coal packs on the steep face of the rings as indicated at d, e, and forms impact surfaces for the fresh coal passing through the discs. The circumferential edge of the disc b is shrouded by an annular ring m so that only the whirl produced by the disc a effects the discharge through the orifice k of any large particles of coal not carried off by the fan i.
