Abstract
598,040. Pulverizing-mills. SIMONCARVES, Ltd., and BOCK, J. H. Aug. 29, 1945, No. 22289. [Class 59] A pulverizing-machine comprises two stages, the first stage comprising a swinging hammertype mill which discharges through an axial opening into a beater mill constituting the second stage, having a rotor of larger diameter than the rotor of the first stage mill, the outlet from the second stage being arranged tangentially to the rotor thereof. Material from an inlet 1 is engaged by hammers 3 pivoted to a revolving hub 6 and the resultant small particles are drawn, by the air stream created by beaters 12, through an axial opening 9 into engagement with the beaters 12. The pulverized material is expelled through a tangential outlet 2, inverted V-shaped baffles arranged therein returning the heavier particles to the beaters. A pocket 16 at the lower part of the first stage is provided for catching high-density foreign bodies, e.g. iron particles found when grinding coal. In an alternative construction, two sets of swinging hammers are arranged on opposite sides of a beater wheel, both feeding material axially thereto.
