Abstract

306,326. Ross, H. M. April 20, 1928. Road-traffic signals on vehicles,-A road-traffic signalling device has a prismatic box 1 with a signal on each face and rotatably mounted in an outer box 2 having a transparent panel 5. The device is mounted at the front or back of a car with the panel 5 facing frontwards or backwards respectively. A flexible connection, preferably a Bowden cable 11, connects one of the trunnions 6 of the box 1, to a lever 8 operated by the driver. The lever works in a notched slot 14 in a, plate 16 so that the signal positions are defined. A spring 12 is connected to an eccentric 17 to return the box 1 to its normal position. The faces of the box 1 may be of translucent material bearing the signals " ahead," " stop," and direction signals, or they may be composed of opaque material formed into stencils. A lamp is provided for illuminating the signals at night. The signal device may be connected to the brake pedal so that when the latter is depressed the signal " stop " is indicated. The arrangement may be erected at a street crossing to indicate signals for passing vehicles.
