Abstract
305,082. Carpmael, A., (I, G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Oct. 26, 1927. Samples furnished. Anthraquinone vat dyes are obtained by the action of sulphuric acid at a relatively low temperature on a 1: 1'- or 2 : 1<1>-dianthraquinonylamine containing at least one acridone ring in the 3(CO)-4(NH)-position, and, in addition, at least one acylamino group, with or without other substituents. Whenever necessary the products are oxidized, for example with nitrous acid. The products are believed to be carbazoles, ring closure apparently taking place in the 2 : 2<1>- or 1 : 21-positions. In an example, the dianthraquinonylamine obtained by condensing 4-amino- 1 : 2-anthraquinoneacridone with 1-benzoylamino- 5-chloranthraquinone in molecular proportions is treated with concentrated sulphuric acid at 15‹- 20‹ C. ; a green precipitate is formed which becomes olive-brown on adding sodium nitrite and heating to 60‹ C. The product dyes cotton in fast olive-brown shades, whereas the starting- material dyes it greenish-grey. The corresponding dianthraquinonylamine from 1-benzoylamino- 4-chloranthraquinone dyes cotton in greyishgreen shades, and when treated with sulphuric acid and nitrite yields a reddish-grey vat dye.
