Abstract
302,749. Burch, J. B. Oct. 6, 1927. Fastenings for trunks. -In an expansible trunk, case, box &c. of the kind comprising two members one positioned within the other and one B having an open top and the other A an open bottom and hinged lid C, each member is provided with lengths of tubing and the tubing on one member slides within the tubing on the other member as the trunk is adjusted, a spring-controlled pin in each inner tube engaging one of series of holes in each outer tube to lock the tubes together in the adjusted position; means are provided for manually removing each pin from the hole and for preventing the tubes being pulled entirely apart. Each pin 12 is carried in a lug 13 on the inner tube 10 and the head thereof is engaged by one end of a spring strip 15 whose other end is curled around a pin 16 in the tube 10 and formed as a plate 15b through which passes stem 20 secured to a guide 18 on a plate 17 slidable on the tube 10 and actuated by a rod 19 provided with an operating knob; or a pair of rods may be connected to a single operating bar 19<a>. By depressing the knob or bar 19<a> the plate 17 is moved against the action of a spring 21 disposed between the guide 18 and plate 15<b> to force the spring 15 aside and thus withdraw the pin 12 from the hole 9 in the outer tube 7 against the action of the spring 14; when the parts are adjusted the springs cause the pin to engage the appropriate hole in the tube 7.
