Abstract
299,754. Frost, W., and Frost & Co., Ltd., H. July 29, 1927. Jacks.-A lever lifting-jack has two separate crutches mounted so as to be laterally adjustable towards or away from each other. Two crutches 17, Figs. 1 and 2, are mounted on levers 14 connected by universal joints 15 with the frame 12. The crutches can be adjusted towards or away from each other by swinging the. levers on the joints 15. The crutches are raised and lowered by means of a winch-drum 20 operated by a handle 21 and having hoisting ropes 24 passing over pulleys 19 on the levers. The crutches 41, Fig. 3, may be mounted on a parallel motion linkage 36 slidably mounted on transverse shafts 34, the upper shaft being of angular cross-section and rotatable by means of worm and sector gearing 53, rapid adjustment ratchet mechanism 51, and linkage 45. A double crutch attachment for use with a lever jack comprises two crutches 73, Fig. 5, adjustable vertically in blocks 66 which are laterally slidable in a pair of guides 63 provided at their ends with clamps 71 and having a central spigot 60 for insertion in a jack in place of the usual crutch.
