[Class 78 (iii).] Vehicle lifting and turning apparatus of the kind comprising one or more extensible lifting members permanently connected to a ground-engaging turntable and actuated from the vehicle motor is constructed with means for selectively actuating any extensible member. As shown, the apparatus comprises a turntable C, Fig. 11, on which four jacks B are mounted. Each jack, which is secured to the turntable by a ball and socket joint 43, Fig. 16, comprises a plurality of screwed sections 37-40 fitting one within the other and enclosed in telescopic casing members 44. Extension is effected by the rotation of the top member 37 by a bevel wheel 82 which may be engaged by either of two bevel wheels 81 carried on a slidable sleeve 80 splined to a shaft 61. Two such shafts 61 are provided, one being arranged longitudinally at each side of the apparatus and actuating the two jacks on that side, and the two shafts being driven through worm gear 66 by a transverse shaft 62, Fig. 11, which is driven from the engine of the vehicle. Each jack is operable independently to raise or lower the vehicle by sliding one or other of the bevel wheels 81 into engagement with the wheel 82, this operation being effected by push-pull controls 95 through wires 93 and pivoted arms 92 connected by links to arms 85 on each jack. The turntable C comprises an upper plate 50 carrying the jacks and mounted by ball bearings 51 on a ground plate 46. The latter is formed with an internally toothed recess 49 meshing with a pinion 55, Fig. 18, which is connected with a stub shaft passing through the plate 50 and secured by a universal joint 56 to a series of telescopic shaft elements 57 enclosed in a telescopic casing 59 and operated from the transverse shaft 62 to rotate the turntable by mechanism similar to that used for the jacks.
