Resistance furnaces. - In an enamelling &c. furnace, heated by electric resistance elements 2, the charges are supported on members 4 the stems 12 of which project upwardly from a movable carriage 7 through longitudinal slots 3 in the furnace floor,. these slots being sealed by metal plates 9 secured to the stems 12. The carriage 7 is mounted on rollers 8 and the chamber below the furnace floor in which it is located is shut off from the atmosphere. The stems 12 'of the supports 4 are detachably mounted on members 5 of heatinsulating material, these members being carried by pins 6 secured to the carriage.
