Abstract

322,367. Woolford, F. B. Dec. 24, 1928. resistance furnaces. -The resistances are supported on the inside of a muffle of fireclay or other ceramic material by pins or rods of silica which may be in the form of quartz. The fireclay muffle A is provided with a flange a and a cover provided with an aperture H allowing insertion of a pyrometer. Fireclay plates C fitting in slots in the muffle carry silica pins B cemented in the plates. Nichrome resistance coils F extending from end to end of the muffle are arranged in sinuous fashion on the pins. Longitudinal slots E in the plates C allow passage of heat from the elements. In Fig. 3 the resistance F is arranged on quartz rods G mounted in fireclay studs secured in the plates C.
