Abstract
298,145. Thomas, R. E., and Billetop, T. C. July 1, 1927. Addition to 257,358. Hatches.-The lower track for the rollers on the hatch web in the arrangement described in the parent Specification are formed either by the horizontal surface of an angle bar D, Fig. 1, secured to the outside of the main hatch coaming B, or, in the case of a tween deck hatch, by the enclosure of a part of the deck D, Fig. 4, which is secured to the hatch coaming B<1> stiffened by a beam Q. The upper guide C is in either case carried by the vertical angle bar E and is provided with a lip c' which encloses the rollers H which are mounted on spindles h<1> carried by webbed casings F, the palms of which are secured to the hatch beams A on which are also mounted the rollers K which engage with the side of its main coaming. The beams are secured in their spaced position across the hatch by latches P which engage with notches c<2>, c<3>, Fig. 5, cut in the upper surface of the guide C, the width of the notches increasing towards the centre of the hatch from both ends so that the beams provided with complementary latches ride over the notches until they come into alignment with the notch with which the latch can engage.
